In my Professional Practice graphic design class, I undertook a simulated freelance project from brand inception to identity creation.
Inspired by the captivating tales of Yobaghu-Talyonunh, a central figure in Tanana folklore, I envisioned and developed Tanana Preserves Folklore Museum, a cultural bridge in the heart of Alaska.
The goal of the project was to seamlessly blend modern design aesthetics with the rich traditional imagery of the Tanana tribe. This involved creating a visual identity that not only resonated with the cultural roots of the community but also spoke to a contemporary audience.
This project showcases my strategic approach to branding and storytelling through design.
Final Brand Identity
Final Logo - chosen for its blend of modern design sensibilities and traditional reference (traditional Tanana beading), and its ability to communicate the brand objectives.
Final Color Palette - pulled from traditional Tanana beading works and are named based on chapters in “First Medicine Man: Tales of Yobaghu-Talyonunh”.
Final Typefaces - Futura PT Heavy was chosen for the modern elements it brings to Tanana Preserves. In an effort to remain a blend between modern design sensibilities and traditional aesthetics, Justus Slab Pro was chosen, not only for the tradition it brings in but for the similarities in typographic structure it shares with Futura PT Heavy (ie. x-height, perfect circle counters).
Final Brand Patterns - each based on a specific chapter/exhibit story in the museum and intended to denote different exhibits.
